KENYA GATOMBOYA NYERI AA

1800 MASL / FULLY WASHED / SL28, SL34, RUIRU 11

Just south of Mount Kenya, in the town of Karatina, sits the Gatomboya Washing Station. Named after the Kikuyu word for “swamp”, the station processes the coffee cherry of the Barichu Cooperative Society. After being picked ripe by the smallholders, the cherry is delivered to Gatomboya Station. The coffee undergoes a rigorous sorting process once arriving at the washing station ensuring the cherry is dense enough for top quality. After the float sort, the coffee is pulped and fermented for 16 to 24 hours. After fermentation, the coffee is washed and soaked for 8 to 14 hours. The coffee, still in parchment, is then dried for approximately 21 days. Staff of the station rakes the parchment frequently and covers the coffee during the hottest times of the day to make sure that drying is slow and even. The result is a very special, beautifully grown, and perfectly processed coffee.

Notes: melon, hibiscus, grapefruit, plum, ripe blackberry, dried papaya
