Isidro Silva's dedication to sustainability stems from generational knowledge. Isidro's coffee farming father taught him at a young age to utilize coffee husks as a natural fertilizer for the farm's soil. Isidro incorporates these sustainable practices to this day on his farm in Huila, Colombia. These ideas are expanded upon by increasing the biodiversity of his farm through incorporating a wide variety of trees including guava, mango, and citrus. Isidro utilizes minimal chemicals and works closely with his neighbors to ensure clean water is delivered to his farm and the surrounding areas in Las Aguilas. Utilizing old world holistic practices and modern anaerobic fermentations for processing cherry, Isidro is able to reach fantastic heights with his coffee. Isidro's approach to farming is summed up wonderfully in this quote from him where he says, "Coffee is already special. It's the farmers that make it outstanding." One thing is for sure, this coffee is certainly outstanding.
